being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace; Ephesians 4:3

In many Christian denominations the traditional purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer—through prayer, penance, repentance, alms-giving, and self-denial. It is one of the best times of the year to be intimate with God if one desires to. It can be a personal time compared to the other sacred season. Ultimately it all depends on how you choose to spend time with the Lord. If it is nothing more than just a tradition that is what you get. If it is a time you determine to know Him more it brings great results.

Just like it takes time to learn a new language developing prayer life takes time.

When we first pray it is just like learning to communicate a new language. Just like it takes time to learn a new language prayer takes time. The more we practice prayer the better our communication with the heavenly Father. Not that God does not understand our language or has a communication barrier. It is about the actual investment in prayer that matters. S.D Gordon was a great man of prayer and a layman who called America to pray.

He said, `The greatest thing anyone can do for God and man is pray. It is not the only thing, but it is the chief thing. The great people of the earth today are the people who pray. I do not mean those who talk about prayer, nor those who say they believe in prayer, nor those who can explain about prayer, but I mean those who take time to pray.’

Schooling enables one to communicate more efficiently. So is it with prayer. The best schooling for prayer is to spend time with the author and creator Himself.

Prayer is a language that no one can master apart from the Master.

We can be Christians for many years and still make no improvement in our prayer life. That means we have serious speech impairment. It is no so much the words we use or the vocabulary or the rituals that matters in prayer. Prayer opens ourselves to a deeper understanding and meaningful relationship with Him. It is the purpose of prayer that it accomplishes more important than the grammar and vocabulary of prayer. One can study about prayer and also use all prayer books. However, to simply pray as in a two way conversation with the Lord is equal to time spend with Him and a deep desire to know Him more. Unless the sole purpose of prayer is to know Him and do His will our prayer lives remain stagnant. During this lent season may we commit to two things, One, to improve our prayer lives and two to allow repentance and alignment back to God’s purposes in personal lives.
